D-RUG

KVG Vibration-Isolated OCXO Module

KVG is a German company with a 75+ year history focusing on the development and production of high-end frequency control products. Increasing demand for high performance crystal oscillators in mobile applications where vibrations impact performance, led to the development of our vibration-isolated OCXO D-RUG module. It is designed to avoid the phase noise deterioration of crystal oscillators in these applications.

This module uses an ultra-low g-sensitivity OCXO encapsulated in a specially developed mechanical vibration damping system. The 80 x 80 x 50 mm package weighs less than 600 g. The damping system resonant frequency is below 40 Hz. It has excellent dynamic phase noise performance at a frequency offset of 100 Hz and beyond. The effective g-sensitivity can be improved by a factor of 10 at 100 Hz and by a factor of 100 at 1 kHz. It guarantees reliable performance under harsh temperature, altitude, vibration and shock conditions, specified by MIL-STD-810G Change Notice 1 and RTCA DO-160G. This module is ideally suited for civil and military airborne applications.

It exhibits outstanding dynamic phase noise under harsh vibration conditions. With random vibration from 10 Hz to 2 kHz and acceleration spectral density of 0.02 g2/Hz, the D-RUG 100 MHz module improves dynamic phase noise at frequency offset of 100 Hz and beyond significantly, compared to an uncompensated OCXO. The dynamic phase noise from 1 kHz is as good as the static phase noise.

Key features:

  • Ruggedized package 80 x 80 x 50 mm
  • Frequency options 80, 100, 120, 240 MHz
  • Dual-output option
  • Resonance frequency < 40 Hz
  • Significant improvement of effective g-sensitivity from frequency offset of 100 Hz
  • Outstanding dynamic phase noise performance
  • Customized dynamic phase noise test
  • Customized military-grade qualification and screening tests.

Ortel Introduces O-Band Laser Module for LiDAR, Optical Sensing and Coherent Communication

ALHAMBRA, CA, March 25, 2024 –Ortel, a Photonics Foundries enterprise, announced the Model 1693 O-Band Continuous Wave Laser Module, providing designers with another wavelength option with very high power and narrow linewidth for LiDAR, fiberoptic sensing, coherent communication, and test and measurement applications. The 1693 model is the counterpart to the recently released 1790 LiDAR laser targeted for designers seeking an O-Band version Continuous Wavelength Laser. Ortel’s 1693 O-Band Distributed Feedback laser module is characterized for use as a coherent optical source laser and is DC-coupled with a built-in TEC, thermistor, and monitor photodiode. The device is mounted in a 14-pin, OC-48 pinout compatible hermetic butterfly package with the optical isolator mounted on the TEC. The 1693 model incorporates a high-efficiency coupling scheme to deliver 19 dBm of CW optical power and narrow linewidth characteristics (typically 50 KHz), making it an ideal choice as an O-band Coherent source in fiber optic or free space communication links. The 1693 laser is qualified to Telcordia GR-468 standards to ensure long-term reliability. “The 1693 O-Band laser gives designers another wavelength option with excellent stability and reliability in the ever-expanding LiDAR Sensing and Coherent Communication markets,” said Gyo Shinozaki, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Ortel. Driven by new investment via the Photonics Foundries acquisition, Ortel continues to add to our already robust product offerings as we expand our reach into these rapidly evolving markets.”

NEW-SPOT-closed-metal-with-cable

Cotsworks New Product Announcement : SPOT CE

December 17, 2024

COTSWORKS is highlighting the SPOT-CE or Secure Parallel Optical Transceiver Card Edge version. SPOT and SPOT-CE operates with four Tx and Rx channels on multimode fiber at 1, 10, and bonded 40Gbps data rates meeting IEEE specifications at all three speeds. The same engine for both versions drives the eight lanes and a fixed use processor provides excellent performance over temperature and time. Optical link budgets exceed industry standards while still launching at Class 1 eye safe output. Notably, SPOT’s electrical connector is a tight tolerance industry standard QSFP electrical card edge connector.

  • SPOT-CE or SPOT Card Edge is designed to be mounted on a card edge of what is typically an embedded board such as an FMC style I/O card. SPOT-CE comes with an optional EMI shield so that a metal faceplate can be utilized for applications where boards are installed in LRUs or chassis applications. While SPOT has the MT-R to secure the MT ferrule, SPOT-CE has a receptacle for the COTSWORKS MT-T connector system.
  • The MT-T™ is an industry first: a top-tabbed three-part enclosure around the IEC 61754 MT ferrule. The MT-T plugs into SPOT-CE securely with an all-metal body and the tab can vary in length and position so it can be used with connectors such as a MIL-DTL 38999 or EN4165. The tab is designed to be rugged and reliable over time, temperature, and an aerospace level of insertion/de-insertion amounts. The MT-T is available on cables from COTSWORKS or as a kit to OEMs utilizing MT ferrules.
  • A Ferrule Detection Sensor™ (FDS) detects the presence of the IEC 61754 MT ferrule and indicates its status in a vendor defined field of the Serial ID of the transceiver. This exciting feature enables network administrators to potentially login to the computing box that SPOT is operating in on a PCBA and determine if a connection fault is due to cable and connector continuity within the computing box or if it’s outside the box within the network itself.

SPOT and SPOT-CE will operate at 1/10/40Gbps with a 10/28Gbps – 100G or 4x25Gbps coming later in 2025.
