ALHAMBRA, CA, March 25, 2024 –Ortel, a Photonics Foundries enterprise, announced the Model 1693 O-Band Continuous Wave Laser Module, providing designers with another wavelength option with very high power and narrow linewidth for LiDAR, fiberoptic sensing, coherent communication, and test and measurement applications. The 1693 model is the counterpart to the recently released 1790 LiDAR laser targeted for designers seeking an O-Band version Continuous Wavelength Laser. Ortel’s 1693 O-Band Distributed Feedback laser module is characterized for use as a coherent optical source laser and is DC-coupled with a built-in TEC, thermistor, and monitor photodiode. The device is mounted in a 14-pin, OC-48 pinout compatible hermetic butterfly package with the optical isolator mounted on the TEC. The 1693 model incorporates a high-efficiency coupling scheme to deliver 19 dBm of CW optical power and narrow linewidth characteristics (typically 50 KHz), making it an ideal choice as an O-band Coherent source in fiber optic or free space communication links. The 1693 laser is qualified to Telcordia GR-468 standards to ensure long-term reliability. “The 1693 O-Band laser gives designers another wavelength option with excellent stability and reliability in the ever-expanding LiDAR Sensing and Coherent Communication markets,” said Gyo Shinozaki, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Ortel. Driven by new investment via the Photonics Foundries acquisition, Ortel continues to add to our already robust product offerings as we expand our reach into these rapidly evolving markets.”
